Good to know about Cebu City
Cebu City, the second largest city in the Philippines as well as the capital of Cebu is also not only the oldest settlement of the Philippines (established by the Spaniards) but the center of commerce, trade, education and industry in the Visayas.

Cebu City is politically subdivided into 80 barangays and counted 866,171 inhabitants in 2010.

Many people come to Cebu City because they fly in to Mactan International airport.
In Cebu City travelers often start their trip to some of the best places on the Philippines like Malapascua Island which is famous for the treasure sharks and well known by divers; Moalboal, another great place for diving or Bantayan island, an amazing island loved by many tourists. From Cebu it is pretty easy to reach islands like Leyte, Bohol or Negros too.

Cebu City itself is pretty loud, polluted and can get extremely hot. You can find great restaurants, do some shopping in one of the malls or get to see some good live bands. Like in every bigger city you will need more money than in other places in the Philippines. If you go out for food to the nice places of Cebu like Ayala mall or the IT-Park you have to spend between 300 and 500 Pesos for a meal. After staying there for a day or two you are probably ready to leave for your first island.
